Alan Wake 2 release date set for 17 October

And is that Max Payne?

The Alan Wake 2 release date was today confirmed for 17 October alongside a terrifying new trailer.

Earlier this weekAlan Wake voice actor Matthew Porretta accidentally let slip that we’d see the sequel in October; turns out he was right.

The highly-anticipated Remedy Entertainment sequel said it would lean hard into survival horror, and this new trailer proves that.

Alan Wake 2 is our first survival horror game,” said Remedy’s Sam Lake.

“Coming back to Alan Wake, we felt it would be the best genre to tie together the story, the atmosphere, the pacing, and the gameplay more closely than ever before in a Remedy game,” Lake continued. “We wanted to make this game brutal and harrowing, but not only that: this is an Alan Wake experience, so there are different sides to it. Darkness equals horror, but there are daytime scenes, quirky characters, plenty of humor, and a deep mystery to explore. With this, we feel, when it gets scary, it will stay fresh throughout the whole game, and you won’t get a chance to get used to it or become numb to it.”

The trailer, below, also has a very Resident Evil 2 remake-style look to it all… and was that Max Payne? Remedy’s Connected Universe sure makes that assumption a potential reality.

Remedy today confirmed that Alan Wake 2 will be “from the perspective of two playable characters”. While Wake is a given, players will also control FBI agent Saga Anderson.

“Saga Anderson risks her life to solve a deadly mystery of murders in the Pacific Northwest while Alan Wake attempts to rewrite his reality to escape the depths of the Dark Place, a nightmare version of New York City,” Remedy said in a press release.

“Anderson and Wake are two heroes on two desperate journeys in two separate realities, connected at heart in ways neither of them can understand.”

Now all that’s left is a demo? Sooner rather than later please, Remedy.

Alan Wake 2 heads to Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5 on 17 October 2023. Remedy has also confirmed the release will be digital-only.
