Alan Wake 2 demo, gameplay coming… but not in the next few months

Good things come to those who wait. Good things come to those who wait.

Remedy has confirmed we’ll get an Alan Wake 2 demo at some point, though it or a promised update won’t be coming in the next few months as originally planned.

Speaking as part of an Alan Wake anniversary update, Remedy’s Sam Lake said more time is needed before anything goes public.

“Everything with Alan Wake 2 development is going really well,” Lake said.

“We are deep in production, have a lot of material, and a great deal of the game is playable. But we’ve been talking for the past couple of months and have come to the decision here at Remedy, along with our wonderful publisher Epic Games, that we will not be showing anything big this summer,” he continued.

“To create a proper, polished demo or a trailer takes a lot of effort, and it’s several months of work that could take away from development. We feel that we have momentum going, and we want to make sure we are creating the best, and first, survival horror game for Remedy. We don’t want to take the team away from that focus, so we’re going to keep going and making a great game experience, and unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for a demo and trailer.”

As a means of apology, Remedy provided Stevivor with four pieces of concept art from Alan Wake 2; we’ve included those below.

The filenames of the art pieces provide additional insight — the city streets are titled “DarkPlace” while the hotel rooftop is just that (“Hotel_rooftops”). The final piece of artwork is titled “CauldronLake_Forest”, the place where Alan realised that it’s not a lake… but an ocean.

We’ll have more on Alan Wake 2 as it’s made available.

Alan Wake 2 was finally announced back in December 2021. The title is expected in 2023 on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5.
