AFL Evolution 2 is launching early, might arrive this week

AFL Evolution 2 has followed Final Fantasy 7 Remake in moving its release date forward to counter inevitable delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s now officially launching this Friday 3 April on Xbox One and PS4, but unlike Final Fantasy 7, you probably won’t be playing it this weekend.

While retailers have been given the green light to begin shipping from 2 April, the disc version of AFL Evolution 2 won’t be sold in physical stores — you’ll have to buy it online. There’s a chance express post will deliver a copy this Friday, but with the unpredictable delays encumbering Australia Post at the moment, it’s more likely to arrive at some point next week.

However, it’s not that straight forward, as there was an option to pre-order to pick-up in-store at EB Games or JB Hi-Fi prior to 25 March. Footy fans who did that will still be able to go into a store to pick-up their copy — social distancing, of course — but only once it has been delivered to that store. As they aren’t getting general stock to sell, and weren’t expecting to be selling it this week, your nominated store has to wait for it to arrive in the mail.

Digital distribution on the Xbox and PlayStation Stores hasn’t had its release date moved forward, beyond the week it was already adjusted, so at the time of publishing it will still launch on 16 April. It’s a strange situation where a game currently only sold online still has to be bought on disc for a few weeks.

The Switch version will have to bide its time a little longer, and is still scheduled to make its debut on 14 May. The PC version must be on the long term injury list — there’s no indication of when it will be ready for action.
