Xbox One network transfer guide: Move all the things

New Xbox network transfer functionality makes it super easy to copy content between one Xbox One on your home network to another.

This means those who’ve upgraded to an Xbox One X can easily grab content from an older Xbox One or Xbox One S, or those of us (like me) who have more than one Xbox One can transfer content from their home console to their secondary ones.

To use the functionality, you’ll first need to prep the consoles.

Getting ready for network transfer

First, you’ll need to prep both Xbox One consoles as follows:

  • Hit the Guide button and navigate to Settings
  • Navigate to System
  • Select Backup & transfer
  • Select Network transfer

  • Ensure Allow network transfer is ticked

Now that both consoles are able to transfer, it’s time to actually do it. Here’s how.

  • Turn both consoles on and make sure neither has a game loaded, nor is downloading any game updates
  • Head to the console you wish to transfer
  • Hit the Guide button and navigate to Settings
  • Navigate to System
  • Select Backup & transfer
  • Select Network transfer
  • The right-hand side should display a listing of available consoles to copy from
  • Select your console of choice
  • A listing of available games and apps will be displayed; select all or choose the content to copy

  • Hit Copy selected
  • Confirm the drive you wish to copy to
  • Hit Copy
  • You’ll be taken to My Games & Apps and the Queue will give an idea of how long the copy will take

That’s it! Easy as pie.
