Xbox’s Major Nelson: Custom controller Xbox Design Lab program still doesn’t have a launch date in Australia

Speaking with Stevivor, Xbox’s Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb confirmed that the Xbox Design Lab program has yet to be dated in Australia.

Hryb explained that while the custom controller design program is hugely popular in the United States and Canada, there are several hurdles that prevent the program from running in other regions.

Xbox’s Director of Programming added that he hopes the system will be offered in Australia soon, and conceded it’s too expensive for Australians to design in a North American store and then ship overseas — something we know all too well.

The question was also asked during Hryb’s “Storytime with Major Nelson” PAX AUS panel.

“I know the team does want to bring it here — it’s been a tremendous success in other regions,” Hryb said. “I want to tell you, Australia is an incredibly important region for Microsoft and Xbox. I know the team wants to bring it here, I just don’t have a specific date for you right now.”

You can hear our chat with Hryb here.

We’ll, of course, keep you in the loop on Xbox Design Lab availability.
