During PAX Aus, we had the chance to sit down with Naughty Dog Community Strategist Arne Meyer and we couldn’t help ourselves but to ask him about The Last of Us 2. While Meyer’s focus during his stay in Australia is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the upcoming multiplayer beta, he gave a little bit of a hint regarding a possible follow-up.
We asked him flat out if The Last of Us 2 was a thing and Meyer responded saying, “The Last of Us 2 is an idea and one of the ideas that we’ve been working on in pre-production.”
A title in pre-production is never a guarantee and Meyer was keen to stress that progress has not been made.
“Unfortunately we’ve had to pull the team working on that away to work on Uncharted 4,” he explained, but added that “when we’re done with this game we’ll go back and look at all the ideas we had. They may result in The Last of Us 2 or they may not.”
So while not a direct confirmation that a sequel is coming, Meyer did admit that Naughty Dog has been tinkering with the possibility of The Last of Us 2.
Right now though, the studio is full steam ahead on Uncharted 4. Stay tuned for more from Arne Meyer and our impressions of Uncharted 4’s multiplayer.
