Resident Evil 2 is out now, and we’ve a bunch of guides to help you excel in Raccoon City. This particular guide aims to help you with the game’s rankings system.
This guide is a work in progress and will be updated as more is known.
Resident Evil 2 rankings system — Time requirement
Just as in the past, part of your ranking depends on the amount of time taken to complete the game.
Here’s what the game’s results screen says warrants a particular ranking:
- S Ranking: 2 hours or less
- A Ranking: 3 hours 30 minutes or less
- B Ranking: 5 hours or less
- C Ranking: More than 5 hours
Be aware though that your overall ranking isn’t solely dependent on the above timings.
Update: It’s now largely understood that players should aim for times under 3 hours (1st Run) or 3.5 hours (1st Run) on Standard for an S, or 2.5 hours (1st Run) or 3 hours (2nd Run) on Hardcore.
Resident Evil 2 rankings system — Other factors
As with past games, it’s clear that other factors impact your ranking. Those factors include the likes of:
- Deaths/continues (Assisted/Standard difficulty)
- First Aid Spray heals
- Amount of saves made
- Infinite ammo weapons
These factors can impact your ranking positively and negatively; we know this because we had a Standard difficulty run over 3 hours and 30 minutes and still managed an A ranking.
Infinite ammo weapons will restrict players from receiving an S+ ranking, needed to unlock other infinite ammo weapons.
Resident Evil 2 rankings system — Final calculation
In past games points were awarded, behind the scenes, for your playthrough. If you achieved a stellar time in the N64 version of Resident Evil 2, you were awarded 100 points as an example; avoiding First Aid Sprays also awarded 100 points. Your total score dictated your ranking.
At the time of writing, there’s simply not enough data to calculate these types of scores and what they equate to, in-game, but if you’re aiming for an S ranking, be speedy (and behave yourself).
As more data comes in, we’ll update this section to make the ranking calculation crystal clear.
Resident Evil 2 is out now on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
