How to download an entire Tumblr blog

The great Tumblr de-adultation (it’s a word we’ve just made up) is about to take place, and ahead of the platform removing all of its adult content, we thought we’d help users back up their favourite blogs by downloading them in their entirety.

If you’re on a Windows PC, it’s pretty easy — here’s what to do:

  1. Download a program called TumblThree (via GitHub, here)
  2. Unzip the program and run its executable
  3. Follow TumblThree’s instructions to indicate the Tumblr blog URL you’d like to crawl and then download

The program offers you a lot of control, including the ability to download images, text, videos or other combinations of content. In Settings, you can choose where the content is downloaded and even do things like limit bandwidth if you’re, um, downloading a lot (across multiple blogs).

If you’re on a Mac, sorry in advance — there aren’t easy tools like this available for you as far as we can tell.

It’s all perfect ahead of Tumblr’s removal of adult content on 17 December, eh? Have at it!
