Preview: D4

While very little has been revealed when it comes to D4, Microsoft used the first day of the 2014 Tokyo Game Show to announce the game would be released worldwide on Xbox One almost immediately on 19 September 2014.

The game’s creator, Swery65, walked press through a live play session of D4 and showed how the game could be played through the use of the new Kinect. While seated, a player can run via frantic running actions with their arms, tap their forehead for a hint, push any other character with a swipe of a hand, grab air to open doors and explore the in-game environments simply by exploring space with one’s hands.

Designed from the ground up to be played through Kinect, D4 can also be played with an Xbox One controller though the Kinect is Swery65’s preferred method of input and is admittedly easier and more enjoyable to use. For example, while the main character can jump higher or interact with characters by talking at your Kinect, you’ll have to perform a combination of button presses to get the same result on a controller.

Swery65 prided himself and his team on creating a game world that’s fairly interactive but caters to all players. He was quite proud that the game suits both those that want to find every hidden secret or others who just want to complete the main story as quickly as possible.

The story itself – while not having a complex branching narrative and alternate endings like Telltale’s The Walking Dead – does feature a variety of side-quests that promise to satisfy those wanting more than the main storyline.

As a further bonus to players, free weekly DLC was promised in the form of alternate t-shirt designs for the main character in addition to future episodes planned to continue the game’s main storyline.
