Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is worth its higher price, says Nintendo

But don't expect all new Switch games to be so pricey...

Nintendo has justified the higher price of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch while at the same time saying that consumers shouldn’t expect that price tag for all new games.

In America, Tears of the Kingdom is priced at $70 USD, in line with some current-gen Xbox and PlayStation titles.

“We look at what the game has to offer,” Nintendo’s Doug Bowser said to AP News. “I think fans will find [Tears of the Kingdom] is an incredibly full, deeply immersive experience. The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game.

“This isn’t a price point that we’ll necessarily have on all our titles,” he continued. “It’s actually a fairly common pricing model either here or in Europe or other parts of the world, where the pricing may vary depending on the game itself.”

As Ben pointed out in a recent Friendly Fire ShowZelda‘s pricing is a bit different in Australia. While titles priced $70 USD usually end up around $110-125 AUD, Tears of the Kingdom‘s retail price is $89.95 (albeit higher than what we’d usually pay for a Switch title). That’s not to say you can’t find it cheaper — there are copies going for $74.00 AUD on Amazon.

Expect The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom from 12 May on Nintendo Switch.
