Wii U production has finally ceased in Japan

Nintendo of Japan has confirmed it has ceased production of the Wii U.

Redditors discovered the news on Nintendo Japan’s product page, with an image of a Wii U joined by the text, “Production end (in Japan).”

Rumours that the production line had been shut down started as early as March 2016 and flared up again in November 2016, with the manufacturer quickly denying all reports.

The next Nintendo console, the Switch, hits stores on 3 March.
