Wargaming sets its sights on mobiles with new studio WG Cells

Wargaming today announced a new studio called WG Cells, specifically focusing on mobile titles.

WG Cells will be led by David Bluhm, previously CEO of DropForge Games. The studio’s portfolio includes several new iOS games, described by Wargaming as follows:

  • Loot & Legends, a highly rated strategy/role-playing game that was named Editor’s Choice by Apple’s App Store last August and currently available on Apple iPad
  • Fantastic Plastic Squad, developed by Pound Sand studios, launching this year; a third-person shooter set in the 1980s, which was featured on Apple TV at the Apple Special Event, September 2015
  • Smash Squad, a role-playing game with a physics-based battle mechanic set to launch in 2016

“Wargaming is committed to developing a strong mobile gaming business as one of our major pillars of our corporate strategy,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. “We understand that the mobile market is massive and has even greater potential. WG Cells allows us to take advantage of this market, provide great games and expand our product scope.”

“It’s very exciting to bring the full force of Wargaming’s brand, expertise, know-how, and resources to the fast growing mobile games market,” David Bluhm added. “Wargaming has already created world-class games for every major gaming medium, and WG Cells will help further bolster the company’s mobile offerings with some outstanding titles.”
