US employment commission files complaint against Activision Blizzard over harassment allegations

The developer has confirmed it has created an $18 million USD fund to "make amends".

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a complaint against Activision Blizzard, following allegations of sexual harrassment that surfaced earlier in the year.

The filing follows a similar one by the Californian Department of Fair Employment and Housing back in July of this year.

The EEOC’s filing alleges that Activision Blizzard “knew or should have known” about complaints of sexual harassment and subsequently “failed to take corrective and preventive measures”.

“Once Defendants knew or should have known of the sexual harassment [they] failed to take prompt and effective remedial action reasonably calculated to end the harassment,” a portion of the filing reads.

Shortly after the filing, Activision Blizzard took to a statement to announced it had reached an agreement with the EEOC “to settle claims and to further strengthen policies and programs to prevent harassment and discrimination” within the company itself.

Activision Blizzard furthered that it has created an $18 million USD fund to “make amends” to claimants. Any unused monies in the fund will be donated to “charities that advance women in the video game industry or promote awareness around harassment and gender equality issues”.
