Ubisoft’s uPlay DRM lives on after patent lawsuit dismissed

A United States District Court judge recently dismissed a lawsuit against Ubisoft and its uPlay DRM software.

The suit claimed that Ubisoft violated patents held by Digital Reg of Texas in uPlay’s design.

Filed back in 2012, the suit alleged that Ubisoft violated six of Digital Reg’s patents in regards to remotely tracking access to software after distribution and post-distribution security and the like.

Judge Claudia Wilken dismissed the suit for “numerous reasons,” citing an agreement between Digital Reg and Valve over third-party use of the patents in question.

So Ubisoft’s controversial uPlay DRM lives on. Yay?
