Twitch Prime stops ad-free viewing in September

Twitch Prime will stop ad-free viewing in September, it was today announced.

Those members with a valid subscription will be able to take advantage of ad-free viewing until 15 October, but the service will no longer be offered to new subscribers from 14 September, Twitch today detailed.

Moreover, those subscribers who choose to cash in an annual renewal of their subscription will get ad-free viewing until that new renewal date.

“Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible,” Twitch advised. “This change will strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity for creators so they can get more support from their viewers for doing what they love.”

Those who wish to go ad-free on a single channel can do so providing the person they’re giving their free, monthly subscription token to have ad-free viewing enabled. Alternatively, users can pay an additional $8.99 USD a month for ad-free viewing via Twitch Turbo.

No other Twitch Prime benefits will change as part of this shift.

What do you make of a subscription free plus ads on Twitch?
