Tomb Raider film reboot gets a director, writer

A movie reboot of the Tomb Raider series has been in the works for five years, and looked to be going to way many video game movies do: quietly towards cancellation (see: Halo). Now things are looking a lot brighter for the project, as Hollywood Reporter reveals that a director and screenwriter have been signed on for the film.

Said director is Norwegian Roar Uthaug, while Geneva Robertson-Dworet will write the screenplay. Robertson-Dworet is credited with Hibernation and Transformers 5, while Uthaug is best known for disaster drama The Wave, Tomb Raider would be his English language directing debut.

So it isn’t huge names, but at least things are progressing. We’ll see if the project gains traction this time round.
