The voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 66.
To many, Conroy is Batman, having voiced the character in Batman The Animated Series and Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series of games.
Conroy was born in 1955 and had many roles in TV and film before landing the role of Batman and Bruce Wayne in 1992. Alongside roles in The Animated Series and Batman Arkham, he also reprised the role in Injustice, MultiVersus, DC Universe Online and more. Of particular note is a live-action portrayal of Batman in CW’s Arrowverse (as seen in the image above).
Non-Batman video game credits include the likes of Hard West 2, Max Payne 2, Lords of Everquest and Crusaders of Might and Magic.
Conroy was also a gay man, and said he used that to further identify with the dual-life of Batman and Bruce Wayne.
“[DC] talked me through the character,” Conroy wrote as part of a special DC Pride 2022 comic. “Explained how young Bruce Wayne had seen his parents murdered in front of him in Crime Alley. How he had formed dual personalities to deal with the agony of his childhood. A mask of confidence to the world, and a private one racked by conflict and wounds. Could I relate to that, they asked.
“Yes, I can relate.”

Conroy is survived by his husband Vaughn C. Williams, his sister Trisha Conroy and brother Tom Conroy. Our best wishes go out to Conroy’s family and friends.
