The pandemic is to thank for Kojima’s Metal Gear successor, Physint

Thanks?!

Hideo Kojima has attributed the creation of Phyisnt, a newly announced Metal Gear successor, to the pandemic.

Announced earlier this month at the PlayStation State of PlayPhyisnt will mark the return of Kojima to the action-espionage genre that Metal Gear Solid made famous.

“Every day on social media, from users all around the world, people have been asking me to create another Metal Gear and stuff like that,” Kojima said as part of a new episode of his HideoTube YouTube series.

“It was also during the pandemic, so I was sick and isolated during all of it. I even had surgery,” Kojima continued. “And I thought, ‘I can’t anymore.'”

“I was at my lowest and felt like I couldn’t go back to making games. I wrote a will, too,” he said. “And in that moment, I realised that people die. But, I turned 60 last year. I’ll turn 70 in 10 years. I hope to never retire. Having said that, if the users desire it so much, I thought I should change my priorities a bit. I still want to do new things, but I decided to make an action-espionage game.”

Those excited for a new Metal Gear-style title will have to be a bit patient — Kojima will release Death Stranding 2 On the Beach in 2025 on PlayStation, and the recently-announced OD on Xbox after that. Long story short, Physint is a long ways off.

Which of Kojima’s projects — Death Stranding 2, ODor Physint — are you most excited for, and why? Sound off in the comments area, below.
