The Evil Within 2 gets changes to upgrade, crafting systems

Bethesda today detailed changes to The Evil Within 2‘s upgrade and crafting systems.

Sebastian and his gear will now be upgraded using separate systems. The familiar Green Gel is used to upgrade Sebastian, while Weapon Parts will now upgrade — you guessed it — weapons.

“The world of The Evil Within 2 is full of possibilities,” Game Director, John Johanas, said via blog post. “With some of the larger stages we’ve created, we’re opening Union up to the players’ wishes and unique playstyles. Through the layout of the world, as well as the crafting and customization systems in the game, we’re providing you with the freedom to take on the challenges in front of you however you choose.”

Sebastian has five upgrade-able systems: Athleticism, Health, Combat, Recovery and Stealth. Each has its own skill tree attached to it. Special abilities include temporary damage increases, it was also confirmed.

When it comes to weaponry, you’ll be able to increase firepower, reload time, capacity and fire rate.

The game also has revamped its crafting system.

“Our crafting system lets you craft ammunition for the weapons that you like,” Johanas continued. “You don’t have to rely solely on what you can scrounge up in the world. Again, it’s that emphasis on letting people play how they want to play. But it all comes back around to how much you explore and how many resources you can track down.”

You can craft on the spot, though it will cost more than doing it at a dedicated bench.

The Evil Within 2 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 from 13 October.
