The 8GB Wii U will be discontinued, life will go on

Kotaku is reporting via the Nintendo Japan website that the 8GB Wii U Basic hardware is to be discontinued. To replace the one distinct feature of the 8GB model, its white colour, a 32GB white console will be introduced to Japan in June and presumably worldwide sometime after.

The 8GB Wii U Basic has been hard to find on store shelves in Australia for most of its life cycle with many retailers clearing out their remaining stock at a discount late last year. Few will lament the end of the tiny hard drive model, in this age of digital distribution the 32GB drive of the Premium model is woefully undersized, 8GB just feels like a poor joke.
