Texas Chain Saw Massacre DLC intends to murder your wallet

Yikes.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre DLC pricing was recently revealed and has its players tied up in knots.

In short, most believe upcoming DLC is way too expensive for what it’s worth.

The reaction has come from a list of DLC prices as released by publisher Gun, which ranges from premium content in a Nicotero-designed Leatherface for $15.99 USD, new characters at $9.99 USD, new executions for $6.99 USD and new cosmetics for $4.99 USD.

Gun also advised that “free” content such as maps will be released for just that: free.

“The characters should be free, period. Charge whatever tf you want for cosmetics. Locking abilities behind a paywall is [f*cked] up,” wrote pyrsoul99 over on Reddit. “A lot of people already paid for the game, they shouldn’t have to pay for more content that honestly, the game should have had before release.”

“If you can unlock characters for free like in [Dead by Daylight, I’ll] be apprehensive on the pricing and stick around,” added okboomerlicious. “But if I gotta spend 10 bucks everytime I see a new character that I like I’m not gonna be sticking around much longer.”

The reactions prompted a reaction from Gun and Sumo Nottingham.

“I’m not trying to be dismissive of the concerns, we’re going to report on them,” wrote brand strategy lead Matt Shotcha. “But we also have our reasons why we’ve priced these things at these rates, and even if I ran down the list, users here would not be interested in hearing that and simply call bullshit, accuse us of simple greed, etc.

“That all being said, I appreciate that you want to see the game continue. We are obviously confident that it will be able to do so with these prices. We wouldn’t have shared them if we thought it would be the death of the game.”

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5; it’s also available through Xbox and PC Game Pass. We reviewed it here.
