Take-Two on Evolve: “Controversy, generally speaking, is a good thing”

Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has responded to the controversy surrounding Evolve and its aggressive pre-order/pre-purchase/DLC program.

Following an earnings call to investors, Zelnick was questioned about the strategy and said, “There was some controversy start-up by an online post and I guess, controversy, generally speaking, is a good thing. People can argue about the business model. I think we’re delivering a fantastic title that’s well versed with consumers who will pay for it. And all signs are extraordinarily positive.”

We’ve already written about Evolve’s DLC and pre-order plans and it’s certainly quite complex. Upon announcement, a backlash emerged by fans who were upset by the focus on DLC.

Zelnick stated he never “likes to claim success before it’s occurred,” but went on to say that what’s happened, “looks to be a good news event. I’m going to leave it at that. Hopefully, in our next call, we’ll have great news to report.” He also stressed that Evolve is the “only game in history” to win Game of the Show at both E3 and Gamescom in the same year.

What’s your stance on Evolve’s aggressive DLC strategy?

Evolve will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 10 February. Look for our review soon.
