Sumo Nottingham slips away as Texas Chain Saw Massacre nabs Black Tower

One developer leaves, another comes in...

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will bid farewell to co-developer Sumo Digital, with Gun Interactive slotting in Black Tower Studios in its stead.

“Both teams at Sumo Nottingham and Gun Interactive are on-boarding Black Tower Studios to the project and are excited for this partnership to help usher in new content and support,” Gun Interactive said in a press release.

“Over the course of the past month, Black Tower Studios has been working alongside Sumo to prepare for their transition to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” Gun continued. “Gun Interactive and Black Tower Studios have had previous history with co-development, where collaboration and transparency are key pillars for both studios. Black Tower Studios is a development studio that has also worked on titles such as Predator Hunting Grounds, Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.”

Sumo took to social media to mirror Gun’s statement that it will support Black Tower Studios in the transition, and to “thank Gun Interactive for being fantastic partners for the last four years, and for giving our horror-loving team the opportunity to sink their meat hooks into this iconic title.”

Sumo Nottingham also promised more information about its next project soon.

Over on Reddit, sentiment seems mixed, with some optomistic about the change and others thinking it’s sounding a death knell for the asymettrical, 4v3 title.

“Only time will tell, and hopefully I’m wrong,” wrote one. “But in past history of video games – developers changing is never a good sign.”

“[In my opinion] it’s the opposite, this could help the game, wrote another. “They made this decision for a reason. This could definitely help and improve [Texas Chain Saw Massacre] if the new developer is bigger, more efficient and with more experience.”

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5; it’s also available through Xbox and PC Game Pass. We reviewed it here.
