Suicide Squad game taken down after game-beating bug

Literally: a game-beating bug.

Update: Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is back online, with a maintenance period ending around midnight today, 31 January. That means that the always-online game was down for approximately 24 hours of a 72 hour early access period that those who purchased its Deluxe Edition were entitled to.

While we’re certainly not owed a review code for the title, we’ve yet to hear back from Warner Bros or Plaion, the title’s Aussie distributor, on whether or not we’ll be provided a chance to put Suicide Squad through its paces.

Original story: Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League was taken down after one hour of early access availability due to a game-beating bug. That’s right: a bug that showed that players had completed its entire campaign without any effort at all.

“We’re aware that a number of players are currently experiencing an issue whereby upon logging into the game for the first time, they have full story completion,” Rocksteady wrote on the game’s official Twitter account.

“To resolve this issue, we will be performing maintenance on the game servers. During this time the game will be unavailable. We expect this to take several hours and will update once we have more information. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

As of two hours ago, Rocksteady said that a fix was currently in testing.

“We hope to implement it and have the game back online as soon as possible,” the studio said. “Thank you for your patience.”

The Suicide Squad is currently only available to those who pre-ordered and ponied up $164.95 AUD for its Deluxe Edition. At the time of writing, no reviews of Suicide Squad have been posted by any games outlet — we currently don’t even have a review code to redeem as yet — so the big ask of all that cash, coupled with this bug and — perhaps most importantly — no way of telling how Suicide Squad is? Those are some big, red flags.

We’ll keep you updated as this story progresses.

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is planned for a 2 February release on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5.
