Steam now offers a refund service on digital games

Steam has instigated a refund policy on digital games and players will be able to apply for a refund for almost any reason; as long as they meet a few conditions.

The provisos are set out on the official Steam Refunds page and they seem rather generous. Provided a player requests a refund within the first 14 days after purchasing a title and has played for less than two hours Steam will issue a refund, for any reason. “Maybe your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn’t like it.

“It doesn’t matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason,” reads the page.

Refunds will apply to purchased DLC as well except in cases where the DLC adds bonuses to the game like levelling up a character for instance. Even in instances where players do not meet the refund requirements, they’re able to apply for a refund and their case will be assessed. “Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.”

This is a pretty major step-forward for the world’s most popular digital video games store and one that will greatly benefit gamers everywhere. If you apply for a refund through Steam, let us know how you go.
