Star Wars: Battlefront will let you share unlocked perks with a partner

What’s the one thing that really turns you off playing a multiplayer game? Is it the trash talking 12-year old? The need to purchase DLC of get kicked out of the most active playlists? Is it a terrible internet connection? Or, is it that if you boot up a game a month, or even a week after it’s been on sale you are somehow woefully underpowered compared to everyone else?

Fret not; Star Wars: Battlefront has you covered.

Battlefront features a ‘partner system’ which allows players to link up with another player of their choosing — presumably a friend — and by doing so can always play together, spawn on each other and see each other. Most importantly, it means they’re able to share unlocks. This means that if one player has spent hours and hours in Battlefront and has a huge swathe of unlocks they’ll be able to share them with their partner who has just bought the game and has unlocked nothing whatsoever. This gives their partner an instant leg-up, making the team stronger and the game more enjoyable for both parties.

DICE Producer Craig McLeod confirmed that by sharing perks, both players have access to them. If a player shares their perks they won’t lose them to the other player.. “You don’t give it away,” he said,  “but you share it with them. So if you have a new player or someone who doesn’t play as often as you, you can share that unlock with them and they’re able to use and experience it.”

It wasn’t entirely clear from either the presentation or Craig McLeod, but it seems that when a player shares their unlocks, the player who they’re being shared with, will only have access for that game session. Once the session is over, they’ll revert back only to the unlocks they gave access to. McLeod again, “Maybe that’s what they want to unlock or maybe that’s what they’re working towards. This is a great system for helping new players get up to a similar level with you or just for creating the ultimate fighting force.”

McLeod also points out that this isn’t just to stop players from being discourage, it’s also about making it possible for people to play together who may normally not have the chance. “The point is that not everyone has a huge amount of time to invest in games. It might be a parent who wants to play with their kids and it’s all about sharing the fun.”

Star Wars: Battlefront will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 17 November 2015.
