Star Wars Battlefront Collection has a broken Achievement, unauthorised mod, and poor matchmaking

What a combination.

Aspryr’s latest retro port, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, is today under fire for myriad issues including poor matchmaking, a broken Xbox Achievement, and the usage of an unauthorised mod.

The mod in question was created by Iamashaymin, who reskinned an existing character on PC to effectively include an Xbox-exclusive character called Asajj Ventress in Battlefront 2. It’s not a 1:1 deal, of course — because the PC character is a reskin, they have animations that don’t match Ventress’ original set on Xbox.

Needless to say, fans quickly noticed the discrepancy, with some reporting Ventress has since been patched.

“This release has been a total mess,” Iamashaymin told IGN. “The fact they had to release patches both before and immediately after releasing two decade old games really says it all. Especially considering part of the patches is rumoured to have removed content they had already said was removed months ago.

“There’s not really anything else I can say that other players aren’t already screaming, it’s a terrible feeling getting very pumped for a game like this and it just missing the mark entirely. It’s a terrible gut punch.”

Next, matchmaking is almost non-existent, with players across the internet complaining of their woes. Most complains revolve around a lack of servers and poor connections.

“Games last for two seconds, the hit detection is atrocious, lag and disconnecting,” wrote slimeguy42 on Reddit

“I’m in Canada so just had the midnight release, booted it up and all the dedicated servers have a ping above 240ms,” said MetalNuck over on TrueAchievements. “If I was lucky enough to spawn(half the time the counter would stop at 1), the connection was so choppy and poor there was literally no chance of being able to play a proper match.”

Finally, TrueAchievements reports that one of Battlefront Classic Collection‘s Achievements is unobtainable, and it’s the one that should unlock when you’ve gone to the painstaking effort of obtaining every other Achievement.

If you’re feeling up to it, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
