Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 4 trailer stops pretending it doesn’t want to be a Kirk show

"Boldly go one step closer to where it all began" sure is a choice.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 4 will kick off in late July, and a new trailer makes it clear that Strange New Worlds really just wants to be about Captain Kirk.

“Boldly go one step closer to where it all began” is the tagline for the new season, really telegraphing that showrunners either want Strange New Worlds to be about William Shatner and the crew of the Enterprise… or, ideally, about Paul Wesley as Captain Kirk in the retold adventures of the Enterprise. Either way, eww.

In the new trailer, below, Anson Mount does make a couple fleeting appearances as Captain Pike, but it’s really all about Wesley as Kirk and Ethan Peck as Spock. I mean, look at the thumbnail they’ve chosen for the trailer…

Despite being sidelined, Captain Pike does make it into Paramount’s official synopsis.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season four sees the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise – led by Captain Christopher Pike – embark on a series of thrilling and emotional adventures across the stars,” it reads. “As they journey to strange new worlds, they will battle inner demons and external threats, encounter colorful new characters, reunite with familiar faces and confront terrifying aliens. Through it all, they strive to embrace a bright, hopeful future.”

The ten-episode season kicks off on 23 July, followed by a final six-episode season that hasn’t been dated as yet.
