Star of Super Mario Bros. movie, Bob Hoskins, dies aged 71

British actor Bob Hoskins, star of Super Mario Bros., Hook, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and most recently Snow White and the Huntsman (his final role) has died aged 71.

The Guardian reports that Hoskins’ agent announced the actor had passed away surrounded by friends and family after a battle with pneumonia.

In 2012 Hoskins announced his retirement from acting following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2011. Most readers of this site would know Hoskins from his roles in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Hook, but his most famous (or infamous) role related to gaming was in 1993’s Super Mario Bros. which Hoskins called “the worst thing I ever did” in 2007.
