Stalker 2 development paused due to Russian invasion of Ukraine

GSC Game World puts the safety of its Kyiv-based employees first.

GSC Game World has paused development of Stalker 2 in the midst of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

‘”Gameplay when?’ is no longer the most common question,” the developer wrote in the description of a new video. “Now we hear ‘Are you guys okay?’ more and more. Ukraine needs all the help it can get.”

The video itself begins with what GSC Game World intended to do — show off behind-the-scenes video of how in-game cutscenes were created — before detailing the current situation in Ukraine.

“The previous week was ages ago,” it declares. “Our country is forced to fight for existence again. We are striving to help our employees and their families to survive. The game development shifted to the sidelines.”

STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl is planned for Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It had recently been delayed to 8 December 2022.
