Square Enix plans to keep “revitalizing existing IP”

Square Enix’s Annual Report suggests the publisher is planning on remaking more of its old games and IPs.

A section of the report titled “The Way Forward” includes intention to “take an IP developed for earlier generations of game consoles and recreate it for the latest consoles.” The report also includes suggestions that Square Enix will particularly focus remakes on smartphones and mobile.

The remake of Final Fantasy VII for PS4 is clearly an indication of Square Enix heading in this direction, but with the release of the report it’s being said in the publisher’s own words. A multitude of older Final Fantasy titles have been re-released for mobile and titles in the Dragon Quest franchise are finding their way to mobile and 3DS.

What do you think of these remakes?
