Sony Online Entertainment renamed Daybreak Game Company after sale by Sony

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has been renamed Daybreak Game Company following the developer’s sale by Sony. Investment firm Columbus Nova purchased the company from Sony with the newly renamed developer operating independently after the sale.

SOE was responsible for a multitude of successful and acclaimed online games over the years including PlanetSide, EverQuest, DC Universe Online, Star Wars Galaxies and the recent H1Z1. Under the new moniker, Daybreak will continue to support and develop all current SOE games. In a post on Reddit the developer reiterated that it would be business as usual, “all SOE games will continue on their current path of development and operation. In fact, we expect to have even more resources available to us as a result of this acquisition. It also means new exciting developments for our existing IP and games as we can now fully embrace the multi-platform world we are living in.”

President of Daybreak John Smedley took to Twitter to reveal that the developer would now be creating games for Xbox One.

Along with continuing development on PC and PlayStation Daybreak will also develop for Xbox and mobile platforms now that it is no longer owned by Sony.

Does this mean that H1Z1 will be coming to Xbox One in addition to PS4? Time will tell.
