Lizzie McGuire revival on hold over “family-friendly” concerns

The Lizzie McGuire revival is facing problems of its own after star Hilary Duff has taken to social media to suggest it, like a planned Love, Simon TV series, isn’t “family-friendly” enough for the mega-corporation.

Duff recently took to an Instagram Story and posted a screenshot about Love, Simon and its movement to Disney’s second-tier Hulu streaming service alongside the caption, “Sounds familiar.”

Variety says that while Disney asserts the show is merely on hold, industry insiders believe “the revival will not move forward”.

“I am so proud of the two episodes we did,” fired showrunner, Terri Minsky, said to the publication.

“Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”

We’ll have more on the Lizzie McGuire revival as it’s known.
