Call of Duty 2023 release delayed to 2024: report

Could this be the first year in a long while that we won't get a new mainline Call of Duty title?

An unnamed Call of Duty 2023 title has been delayed into 2024, a new report suggests.

Twitter’s Tom Henderson was first to report on the delay, with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier quickly following suit.

“Activision is set to delay next year’s Call of Duty title,” Henderson said on Twitter, without citing sources. “This will be the first title in nearly two decades where the franchise won’t have a yearly CoD. It looks like a lot is riding on Modern Warfare II.”

Meanwhile, Schreier has cited sources that added the 2023 title, one in development at Treyarch, has been delayed for further polishing in the wake of underperformance by both Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone.

Activision Blizzard is believed to have three titles in development: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 by Infinity Ward (2022), Warzone 2 (likely 2022) and Treyarch’s title.

We’ll report back as we learn more.

Update: Activision Blizzard has addressed the rumours, calling them “incorrect”.

“We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year and beyond,” an Activision Blizzard representative told Stevivor. “Reports of anything otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details when the time is right.”
