A return to Rapture and combat challenges are BioShock Infinite’s latest DLC; Elizabeth to be a playable character

It was rumoured earlier this month that Irrational Games would reveal the next DLC for BioShock Infinite and the rumours have proven true.

On the BioShock Facebook Page, two separate DLC packs were announced. The add-ons are the “Clash in the Clouds” pack and BioShock InfiniteBurial at Sea – Episode 1“.

“Clash in the Clouds” is an arena based combat challenges add-on, whereby players are tasked with taking down enemies by combining “weapons, Vigors, Gear, Tears, and Sky-Lines in ways you never thought possible as you square off against impossible odds.” “Clash in the Clouds” will feature 60 challenges across four brand new maps. By completing Blue Ribbon challenges players will earn and “unlock concept art, Voxophones, Kinetoscopes, and more in The Columbian Archeological Society”. The pack also includes new trophies/achievements and leaderboards.

“Burial at Sea – Episode 1” is the first story based DLC for BioShock Infinite and features Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth in Rapture “on the eve of the underwater city’s fall from grace”. Irrational Games have rebuilt Rapture almost from scratch in the BioShock Infinite engine for this DLC which melds the gameplay of the original BioShock and Infinite to give the player the best experiences of both.

Explore the city when it was at the height of its beauty, meet some old “friends,” and make some new ones, all through the eyes of Booker DeWitt. Why are Booker and Elizabeth in Rapture? What was the city like before everything fell to pieces?

More information about “Clash in the Clouds” and “Burial at Sea – Episode 1” can be found on the BioShock Infinite website.

Both packs form part of the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.

Finally, some possible details of the third piece of DLC included in the Season Pass have been revealed. On the BioShock Infinite website there is a page set aside for “Burial at Sea – Episode 2” and the pack is even mentioned by name on the Season Pass page. We took a screenshot of the page just in case.

The description of “Burial at Sea – Episode 2” is as follows;

This DLC brings gamers something they have been asking for since they first met the character of Elizabeth: The chance to see the world through her eyes. You become Elizabeth as she seeks to bring closure to her story, and to BioShock Infinite’s. Like Episode 1, this DLC features Rapture as you’ve never seen it before—a shining jewel at the bottom of the ocean, built almost entirely from scratch in the BioShock Infinite engine. Gameplay has been modified to give the player an original BioShock combat experience that merges the best parts of BioShock and BioShock Infinite: new weapons, new Plasmids/Vigors, Tears, Sky-Lines, and Big Daddies. This pack is included in the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.

So it appears that BioShock Infinite’s third — and final piece of Season Pass inclusive — DLC will be set in Rapture with players taking control of Elizabeth. No other details about “Episode 2” have been announced, but the idea of playing as Elizabeth and the possibilities we can imagine are incredibly exciting.

No dates were announced for “Burial at Sea – Episodes 1 & 2”, but “Clash in the Clouds” will reportedly be available from today on Steam and Xbox Live and on Thursday for PS3.
