Riot Games announces changes to the 2016 Oceanic Pro League

Riot Games Oceania today revealed big changes to the Oceanic Pro League (OPL), Oceania’s League of Legends professional Esports league, alongside the confirmation of the 2016 Grand Final.

The OPL kicks off on 18 January this year, moving to a new best-of-three format. For ten weeks, matches will be aired three nights per week — Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays — from 6.00 pm AEST via Twitch.

“We’ve made some fundamental improvements to how our three leagues function and interconnect,” commented Daniel Ringland, Esports Manager at Riot Games Oceania.

“The new OPL structure provides the foundations to support the growth of our teams into strong clubs with passionate supporters, while the changes to the OCS and OOL create greater opportunities for the next generation of pro players, ensuring cleaner transition to top-level play and raising the skill ceiling of our leagues.”

This year’s league will finish up at Brisbane’s Courier-Mail Piazza on 13 August.
