Ramattra Overwatch 2’s newest hero, an omnic like Zenyatta

Learn more about the new hero inside.

Ramattra is Overwatch 2‘s newest hero, an onmic just like support character Zenyatta. According to Blizzard though, that’s one of the few things the two have in common.

“Originally a war machine, Ramattra shed his munitions for a shield to protect his people by promoting peace and tranquility,” Blizzard said detailing the upcoming character.

“His ideals weren’t far removed from his fellow Shambli monk, Zenyatta,” Blizzard continued. “However, Ramattra’s story is one of hardships, trauma, and a magnified view of humanity’s harsh realities.

“Harmony was replaced by dissonance, and Ramattra began to approach his convictions from a more pragmatic angle—justifying any means necessary to defend his fellow omnics. As the leader of Null Sector, Ramattra boasts incredible support from his people, and he is primed to impose his philosophies on our world.”

While Zenyatta is a support character, Ramattra is a tank. He’ll be able to switch between a more traditional onmic form and a new nemesis form, one that makes him him “larger and more menacing than before,” according to Lead Hero Designer, Alec Dawson.

Ramattra’s ability to switch forms is just that — an ability, not an ultimate — and will feature various cooldowns, including the time he’s able to spend in nemesis form. Dawson said to think of Ramattra’s switching ability in the same way that Bastion can transform.

In onmic form, Ramattra will use the staff to deal damage (as seen in the images above), while he’ll sort to punching out opponents in nemesis forms. Dion Rogers, Art Director on Overwatch 2, also confirmed that Ramattra will still look onmic in both forms; as an inventor and engineer, he’s added the extra bulk of the extra form to himself, by himself.

Blizzard is keeping some of its cards to its chest; an explanation of Ramattra’s abilities wasn’t fully offered in a group interview ahead of the reveal. We can surely expect more on Ramattra before his launch on 7 December here in Australia, the same date that Season 2 of Overwatch 2 kicks off.

More on Season 2 itself will be shared ahead of this time, so keep it locked on Stevivor for more. In the meantime, you can watch Ramattra’s new origin story video below.
