Pictonico uses your smartphone’s photos for mini-games

Free-to-start... which means you'll pay down the line.

Pictonico was today announced by Nintendo, a “free-to-start, fast-paced action game for smart devices that’s all about having fun with your photos.”

The app will use your own photos to create mini-games that are then played through, Nintendo explained.

“Choose the photos you’d like to see in the game or take new ones, and play minigames featuring your friends and family,” the company said. “Rediscover photos of loved ones and see them in a whole new light as your family and friends navigate everything from zombie attacks, quirky costume changes, carnival challenges, and more.”

A few “comically chaotic minigames” are available for free, though up to 80 more will need to be paid for to then play.

“Images and videos with the silly outcome of each minigame can be saved on your device,” said Nintendo. “Look back at old photos with a surprising twist – like a good friend strutting down the red carpet, or your grandpa doing a ballerina performance – and share the result with friends and family to see their reaction and laugh together at the results.”

Expect Pictonico on both iOS and Android devices from 28 May.
