Payday 2 developers Overkill Software have been running a Steam group membership drive called Crimefest, releasing free content and gifts for reaching membership numbers, with the final secret milestone unlocked at 1.5 million members. That mark was reached today, and as a result Overkill will be releasing the original Payday: The Heist free on Steam for 24 hours Friday 17 October Australian time (from about 4:00 am if I’ve got my timezones correct).
All Steam members will be able to download the game and keep it forever (well, forever long Steam lasts, anyway) on that day. Note that this is the original game, not Payday 2, but it was still a fun co-op experience, if a little rough around the edges. You can’t argue with the price, and for this weekend at least it should be a shot in the arm to the Payday community.
