Patrick Stewart says new Star Trek Picard movie script in development

A good idea, or another goodbye?

Legendary actor Patrick Stewart has revealed that another Star Trek movie script is in the works and revolves around his character of Jean-Luc Picard.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on his show Happy Sad Confused — now confirmed by Horowitz to have been recorded last November, Sir Patrick said that the script is in its early days.

“I heard only last night about a script that is being written, but written specifically with the actor, Patrick [Stewart], to play in it,” the actor said. “And I’ve been told to expect to receive it within a week or so. I’m so excited because it sounds like the kind of project where the experimentation that I want to do will be essential for this kind of material. It’s good at 83…”

The news has been met with a mixed reaction by Star Trek fans; while some are open to the film, others think it will derail the happy ending offered in Season 3 of Star Trek Picard.

“I have to say, for as much as I love Patrick Stewart, and I like the character of Jean-Luc Picard I really like the cast of the Next Generation and found the third season to be the best,” wrote one. “I’d rather see a movie about the entire ensemble cast then just Picard.”

“But, why? Didn’t we just have a three season long send off to this character? What more is there to do,” asked another.

“Sir Patrick, we all love you. Respectfully, let it go. Amazingly, season 3 of Picard was incredible,” said another. “It put a fantastic bow on the conclusion of The Next Generation cast. Let it go. End Picard’s story on the high-note you already have.”
