Blizzard’s co-op shooter Overwatch is currently in closed beta the developer announced today.
Users who have been selected to participate in the beta will find an Overwatch beta license in their “Your Game Accounts” section of Battlenet. The beta is currently only for users in the Americas and Europe regions and Blizzard has advised that beta testers will be chosen based on various factors.
Beta testers are chosen based on many factors, including your Battle.net region, when you signed up, your computer hardware specifications, and an element of luck. We are also inviting select journalists and community contributors from around the world on a case-by-case basis.
Those users who have been selected will also receive an email invite to the account associated with Battlenet. Australia and New Zealand are included in the Americas region and so some lucky players may receive an invite. Blizzard warns however that “Game performance for players in some regions, such as Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America may be sub-optimal during the beta. If you experience issues with gameplay like high latency, excessive loading times, or long matchmaking queues, please be sure to post in our beta forums so that we can work to make improvements.”
Blizzard has advised that during the closed beta it will be running Beta Test Weekends which will call on larger numbers of players to stress test hardware. Being in the closed beta does not guarantee entry into the Beta Test Weekends though, so players should be on the lookout for invitations.
The beta is scheduled to conclude before the end of the year, but not date has been set. A release date for Overwatch has not yet been announced.
