Overwatch 2 rewards rework in progress, says Blizzard

"We want you to feel more rewarded for just sitting down and playing."

An Overwatch 2 rewards rework is in progress at Blizzard, the developer has declared.

“We aren’t completely satisfied with how everything feels right now,” Executive Producer Jared Neuss wrote in a new blog post. “Today’s experience has opportunity for improvement that we need to focus on.”

“We want you to feel more rewarded just for sitting down and playing,” Neuss continued. “We want you to have new accomplishments to chase outside of your Competitive Rank and Battle Pass level. When you finish a session, we want you to feel good about the time you just spent in the game— even if you ended on an epic losing streak at 2 a.m. after saying that you wouldn’t end on a loss.”

Neuss detailed both short- and long-term fixes. first, Season 2 rewards have been changed “so that each event has a skin you can earn by playing”; Twitch drop programs will also remain in effect. As for the longer term solution, Neuss said that “we’re looking at a mix of Battle Pass changes, more interesting Challenges to pursue, and more exciting play-focused progression systems for you all to dig into.”

As is generally the case with an Overwatch 2 system, Neuss said Blizzard wasn’t ready to talk about the changes in detail just yet. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play title available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Switch.
