Nintendo’s new amiibos have outsold the Wii U’s biggest titles in 2014, recent NPD figures have shown.
In 2014, Mario Kart 8 sold 1.7 million copies in the U.S., with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U clocking in at 1.3 million.
The NPD Group has said that amiibo sales were “nearly twice” that of Mario Kart 8.
Despite their obvious popularity, Nintendo has yet to change their stance on amiibo sales. It’s said that most amiibos won’t be given a second run of printing. Moreover, some yet-to-be-released third wave figurines have already sold out via pre-orders after wave two amiibos proved difficult to obtain.
