Nintendo Switch: Digital games can only exist on one console at a time

Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi has confirmed that Switch eShop purchases will be linked to your account, though you can only download content to one console at a time.

This means those with multiple consoles will only be able to access digital titles on one console at a time, unlike offerings on Xbox One or PS4, where a logged-in user can play any purchased content on any console.

“Currently we don’t have a system like that in place for Nintendo Switch, but we haven’t made any final decisions about how we would approach that going forward in the future, so unfortunately I can’t provide any concrete answer for you right now,” Takahashi said, as translated by Bill Trinen.

The pair was asked, “If I want to take my system with me… if I were to buy a digital game, could I buy it once, or would I have to buy it multiple times so they can use those games?” by a gamer who intended to buy a console for himself, and another for his children.

What do you think of this limitation?

The Switch heads to stores on 3 March.
