Nintendo announces Nintendo Pictures animation studio

"Providing unique and surprising images to customers around the world."

Nintendo officially announced its new Tokyo-based animation studio, Nintendo Pictures, with the launch of an official website for the venture.

The studio appears to be a rebranding of Dynamo Pictures which was acquired by Nintendo earlier this year. Dynamo has developed CG animation in TV, films and video games for over 30 years with credits on major titles like Persona 5Death Stranding and Monster Hunter World.

According to the website, Nintendo Pictures will focus on creating content using its well known gaming IP. The site says “We aim to have consumers around the world learn about Nintendo characters through video, and to create unique videos that will remain in their memories forever.”

This quote has been relayed via Google translator so it’s hard to get an exact read on what to expect from Nintendo Pictures. Though, given that the company has only just launched, they might just be being deliberately obscure.

The website also features a space for job applications with an announcement stating they’ll begin accepting submissions in November. While this probably means we’re a way off from seeing anything produced by Nintendo Pictures, there is some news on the Nintendo animation front.

A trailer for the upcoming CG animated Super Mario Bros. movie is set to premiere at New York Comic-Con this week. Starring Chris Prat as the titular Mario and Charlie Day as the lovable Luigi, fans have been eager to see what something like that even looks like.
