NHL 24 release date set for 6 October

EA Sports has lifted the lid on this year's set of gameplay refinements.

The NHL 24 release date has been set for 6 October across Xbox and PlayStation, once again leaving PC players on the bench.

This year’s iteration will boast newly updated human-controlled goalie controls and a modernised presentation system.

Said new presentation system will boast 75 new goal celebration animations alongside new camera angles, lighting effects, and celly mapping.

“Event reactions in-game now support significant stoppages, rushes down the ice, Exhaust Engine peaks, and dramatic comeback moments, giving NHL 24 the most dynamic, organic crowd reactions yet,” said EA Sports’ Spenser Davis.

NHL 24 also will feature new physics-based contact.

“Physical contact is more realistic and dynamic than ever, making body checks look and feel just like they do on the ice,” Davis continued.

“Reactions to body checks are even more varied with new rag-doll animations that open up more chances for turnovers and opportunities,” Davis wrote. “New rag-doll and animation-based reactions make more types of plays possible, opening up space and creating turnover opportunities via massive body checks. Body checks timed just right can even break the glass and send players tumbling onto the bench.”

Crossplay will be available between same-generation consoles (ie Xbox Series and PS5, or Xbox One and PS4).

As per usual, NHL 24 also includes new updates to online, monitised modes including Hockey Ultimate Team and World of CHEL. Take a look at the title’s first gameplay trailer below.

Expect NHL 24 on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 from 6 October. Pre-orders of the X-Factor Edition include three days of early access starting 3 October.
