New Remedy CEO wants to “maximise the potential” of Alan Wake, Control

"Control, Alan Wake, etcetera, could give a lot more," says Jean-Charles Gaudechon.

New Remedy CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon says the studio is “one-of-a-kind” and needs to “maximise the potential” of cult hit franchises like Alan Wake and Control.

Speaking with The Game Business, Gaudechon, a former executive of EA overseeing PC and mobile versions of the FIFA franchisesaid that Remedy’s “one-of-a-kind” creativity needed to be “protected”.

“Remedy is one of the few studios which is genuinely supported by players. Even my announcement was something I loved, because people were protecting Remedy,” said Gaudechon, referencing noted concerns from fans over his free-to-play, mobile, and live service history.

Gaudechon continued to say that he will focus on growing Remedy’s existing catalogue of franchises.

Control, Alan Wake, etc. could give a lot more,” Gaudechon said. “There’s a vision on thinking bigger for some of these IPs, which need to find its audience much, much further than the current audience. It’s super exciting.

“We need to think more about how we are approaching our IPs as a franchise. “How do we grow the community? [Our deals with] Annapurna [go] into making our games, our franchises shine further and reach an audience that doesn’t exist today.”

Part of said deal with Annapurna means that “Annapurna Pictures are co-financing and co-producing [the upcoming Control Resonant] as part of a strategic partnership with Remedy Entertainment,” according to an earlier statement from Remedy itself. The pair are also working together on TV and film adaptations of the Alan Wake and Control universe.

“As franchises Control, Alan Wake, etcetera, could give a lot more,” Gaudechon continued. “I think Alan Wake should have sold more. Control should have sold more. To me, that’s one of the first things we need to fix, even before trying to make more games to a certain extent. First of all, maximise the potential of the ones we have, because they’re incredible. And cross-media is going to help us do that.”

Control Resonant is planned for a 2026 release on Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Mac via Steam and the Apple App Store, and consoles including Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5.
