New Crazy Taxi will be a triple-A title, says Sega

The new Crazy Taxi game is considered a triple-A title at Sega, a representative from the publisher’s new Sapporo Studio has confirmed.

The news comes as Sapporo Studio has been confirmed as a developer on the title. The relatively new studio has two offices — one near Sapporo Station opened in 2021 and the other, located in Susukino, opened in 2023.

“We are also participating in the development of Triple-A titles, including Crazy Taxi,” Sapporo Studio’s president Takaya Segawa told Japan Times.

“The studio has an R&D department that handles designing and programming games and a QA department in charge of quality control,” Segawa continued. “Recruitment in R&D is progressing as expected, but for QA we received more applications than anticipated, so a second branch of Sapporo Studio opened in April 2023.”

It’s unclear which other Sega studios are assisting with development on Crazy Taxi, just one title announced as part of a nostaligic library lineup back at The Game Awards 2023. New versions of retro titles also planned by Sega include Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage.

Sega’s calling its initiative “Next Level”, though all of the titles are still very early in development and aren’t expected soon.

We’ll have more on Crazy Taxi and the other reboots as information becomes available.
