Multiple copies of OlliOlli available to those with more than one 3DS linked to Wii U

OlliOlli is one of the very first cross-buy titles for both 3DS and Wii U, but it appears that a loophole is allowing players to download multiple copies of the 3DS version.

When purchasing OlliOlli on Wii U, it seems that any NNID registered on the Wii U will be able to download a copy of the game on a 3DS which also has any of the NNIDs registered. Nintendo Life reports that to get multiple copies of OlliOlli on 3DS players need to;

“1) Register several NNID accounts on your Wii U console.

2) Buy OlliOlli on the Wii U when logged into one of the NNIDs.

3) You can now download OlliOlli for free on any 3DS using one of the NNIDs which you registered on your Wii U.”

Because associated NNIDs can’t be moved between Wii U systems and can only be moved to a new 3DS via system transfer (or by purchasing a new handheld) this loophole is one of Nintendo’s own creation. Another cross-buy title, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars doesn’t offer multiple copies of the 3DS version as players are given a redeem code for the eShop when they purchase either version.

Eurogamer received a statement from Curve Digital on the matter which reads; “Before opting in to Nintendo’s Buy One Get One Free initiative, the company made clear that we could do it one of two ways, and both were potentially open to exploitation beyond our control. Despite this, we’re very happy with the cross-buy sales on Nintendo’s platforms so far, and will be taking part in the initiative again where possible.”

OlliOlli is available for 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U and Xbox One.
