Microsoft outs plan for Avatar upgrades in job listing

Dualshockers have found a pair of job listings at Microsoft that indicate their future plans for Xbox Avatars. Avatars have taken a back seat in the Xbox One interface, few (if any) games use them in a meaningful way and they don’t take advantage of the extra horsepower the system provides over the Xbox 360. That looks set to change, as Microsoft are looking to hire somebody to ‘advance (avatars) to the next level’ with ‘higher fidelity and a bigger stage in the new Xbox experiences’.

Avatars will have an expanded role on all Windows devices, from mobile to PC, so it won’t just be a fresh coat of paint with some new lighting and hats, it sounds like avatars will be more tightly integrated into all Microsoft devices and the Windows experience. Whether that means I see a pigtailed, makeup wearing dude with aviators on my Start Menu, I’m not sure, but it is nice to see Microsoft doing something with a feature that has a lot of untapped potential.
